The November Students of the Month were named just prior to the Thanksgiving Break and highlighted in an article on the MHS webpage by MHS English Teacher Mr. Hickey (article below as well).
Senior Kayla Christopher, junior Chelsea Perry, sophomore MacKenzie Burton, and freshmen Hope Silverman pose after they were surprised with the news that they had been named the November Students of the month.
Article by Mr. Hickey:
Student of the Month recipients almost invariably are strong students in the traditional classroom setting and such is the case with the November winners. But a closer look at these standout students reveals that they also strive to grow and excel outside regular academic boundaries. Freshman Hope Silverman, sophomore MacKenzie Burton, junior Chelsea Perry, and senior Kayla Christopher prove that students can pursue many avenues to enrich their lives.
Hope, known for her positive attitude, does not hesitate to take on new challenges, the most notable example being her enrollment in an online Korean language class and her role in the recent MHS drama production of the Sound of Music.
As for MacKenzie, the sophomore winner, her involvement in activities outside the classroom is impressive just in sheer number. She serves on the Messalonskee Leadership Team and Student Council and competes for the swim team and outdoor track squad.
Junior Student of the Month recipient, Chelsea, is a highly active student outside the classroom as well. A frequent volunteer for various causes, Chelsea also finds time to play field hockey, pursue dance, and contribute as a captain of the Messalonskee Robotics Team.
Senior winner, Kayla, likewise leads a busy life. She competes in track and field and exhibited the all-around excellence necessary to gain induction into the National Honor Society. And yet ever up for a challenge, Kayla also found the time and mustered the energy and discipline necessary to earn a black belt in karate.
The November awards ceremony also featured recognition of two Mid-Maine Technical Center Student of the Month recipients from Messalonskee High School: Jeff Frasca in automotive collision repair and Jared Thorne in automotive technology.
