Students at Messalonskee High School and Middle School (8th grade) are beginning the course registration process this week!
8th Grade Registration 2/24/2015 to 3/5/2015
9-11th Grade Registration 2/26/2015 to 3/6/2015
We have made several improvements on the process from the past, including the addition of a digital program of studies website, restructured registration forms, the inclusion of curriculum night, and extra time added in for students, parents, and staff to connect on learning experiences for next year.
Digital Program of Studies Website: It’s just that, a site that houses all of the learning experiences (Courses & Seminars) offered at Messalonskee High School. This site includes descriptions and information you would normally find, as well as links to learning experience templates that include the expected standards a course or seminar will cover, and the prerequisite learning (standards/courses) a student would need to have met to sign up.
Registration Forms: This is what it sounds like – we’ve attempted to include all options, but be more clear about what makes sense for students – including a teacher-sign-off to support what a student signs up for.
Curriculum Night: We have moved our MHS Curriculum Night to March 2nd, from 6-7:30 in the MHS Gymnasium. This is an opportunity for ALL teachers and content areas to be out and available to talk to parents and students about the options that exist for courses and seminars. Incoming Freshmen (8th graders) and their parents will be asked to meet in the PAC that night from 6:00 – 6:30 before being released to the GYM to talk to teachers etc.
Process: Student registration forms are due back in next Friday, 3/6. At that point we will be reviewing what students have signed up for, making decisions on what courses & seminars will run, and which will not (for lack of student interest). From here we will be asking students to take a second look at their choices and make new selections based on what is then available. This approach should allow us to better honor the requests of our students for next year. Our goal is to get schedules out to students prior to the end of the year!

Again – the Digital program of studies can provide lots of detailed information on our MHS offerings in each content area: https://sites.google.com/a/rsu18.org/mhs-course-offerings/
