In an ever changing world, some traditions can be a welcome change of pace. Join the Messalonskee High School Players for a celebration of tradition and change in the time-honored musical, Fiddler on the Roof. Making its debut 50 years ago this year on Broadway, Fiddler on the Roof won the hearts of audiences with such favorites as “If I Were a Rich Man,” “Matchmaker,” Sunrise, Sunset,” and of course, “To Life.” Placed in Imperial Russia, it is the story of a poor milkman, Tevya, with five daughters whose marriages he must arrange but who have minds of their own. Tevya walks a fine line balancing between tradition and the changing world in this powerful, joyous, and bittersweet musical. Showtimes are Friday, Nov. 21 and Saturday, Nov. 22 at 7:00 pm, with a matinee on Sunday, Nov. 23 at 2:00 pm. All shows are in the Messalonskee High School Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $5 for students and seniors, $10 for adults.
In keeping with tradition, on Saturday, Nov. 22, the MHS Players are pleased to join forces with the Annual Holiday Handmade Market, a gathering of over 75 local craftspeople, artists, and exhibitors. You don’t have to be a rich man to get an early start on your holiday shopping! Admission and parking are free! Food, drink, and other refreshments are also available. Come for the shopping, stay for the show. It’s a perfect match.
