Literally and figuratively – Sr. Nick Mayo and Jr. Garrett Main have taken their talents to new heights.
We have so many gifted young men and women who do so many amazing things that we rarely have a chance to recognize them on the blog. These two young men achieved some pretty remarkable feats over the past month and I wanted to highlight both as examples of the tremendous achievements made by our Messalonskee students.
Last Tuesday evening Mr. Mayo sealed the deal, signing his official paperwork to commit to attending Eastern Kentucky University on a full basketball scholarship. EKU finished 24-10 last winter, winning the Ohio Valley Conference tournament championship and advancing to the NCAA Division I Tournament before being eliminated in the second round by perennial champion Kansas, 80-69.
Last Sunday we found out that Mr. Main was selected to represent Messalonskee High School as a member of the American Choral Director’s Association All National Honor Choir. This was a tremendously rigorous audition process; over three thousand students competed for a place in the two hundred voice choir that will be performing in Salt Lake City, Utah in February. Garrett will have an opportunity to sing with the world famous Mormon Tabernacle Choir as well as working with some of the nation’s finest young musicians.
These are but two of many examples of our students who shine both in and out of the walls of our school; we couldn’t be more proud of their efforts!
(thanks to Mr. Peter McLaughlin and Mr. Kevin Rhein for assisting on this blog post!)
