Support For Students & Community Members

We will be opening up the High School tomorrow, Monday October 13th, to provide support for our students following the recent tragedies to our school community.

School administrators and personnel from our Messalonskee and China schools will be on site from 8:00 Am – 6:00 PM answering phones and assisting those in need.  Mental health professionals have been arranged to support students from 9:00AM – 12:00PM and again from 3:00PM – 6:00PM.

Reverend Effie McClean, of the Oakland-Sidney United Methodist Church, with the support of local churches, has arranged to provide non-denominational community assistance at the church (14 West School Street, Oakland) for adults and community members who wish to access support during this difficult time.  Reverend McClean can be reached at 465-5259 with questions.

In consultation with mental health professionals, we have decided to, as much as possible, have students continue their regular routine upon returning to school on Tuesday.  We have reached out to area schools and agencies and will have additional personnel on site to support our students and staff.  If you have any information about any students in need, please reach out to us at school tomorrow.    Should you need immediate assistance or want someone to talk to outside of our school hours, the Maine Crisis Hotline (1-888-568-1112) is a great resource.

Thank you,

Jon Moody

Here are some options for students and community members to reach out to support each other as we all try to deal with these tragic losses.

Thank you, Jon and the teachers and administrators throughout RSU18, for your sensitive and proactive involvement and responses during this difficult time. I am sure with as much as you interact with the kids this must be very hard for all of you personally as well, but you’ve focused on what needs to happen to get the students through it all. Just another example of why we’re proud to be Messalonskee.
