RSU18 District Budget Hearing, Thursday May 15th

The RSU18 District Budget Hearing will be held this Thursday evening, in the Messalonskee High School Performing Arts Center at 6:00.

As an administrator, parent, resident and taxpayer of RSU18 (Oakland) I believe our district has been responsible with spending over the last five years.  Below were some slides Superintendent Smith shared at the budget meetings over the course of the winter.

State vs Local Funding

The slide above highlights the trend over the last 7 years as state funding levels diminished while the RSU18 local contributions have increased (as a percentage of the overall budget).

Per-Pupil Cost Gap

The above slide highlights how RSU18, even with diminished state contributions, has managed to hold to a lean budget well below the state average.  In addition, the RSU18 budget has held below one percent for the last 5 years – a 0.91% increase), the lowest percentage increase of any area school.  (info: Area School District Comparison – 5-Yr. History )

If you would like additional information on the budget or the process please visit the RSU18 budget page at:  http://www.rsu18.org/index.php?id=2&sub_id=5022 or feel free to call with any questions you might have.

I hope to see you at MHS on Thursday night (6:00 PM).
