On Monday of last week, a day prior to our girls field hockey team’s matchup with Skowhegan in the Eastern Maine Championship game, I was approached by some athletes about having a fan bus go to their game. At that time, this was the first I’d thought of the concept of a student fan bus. I spoke with Mr. Goff, the RSU18 transportation director, about the idea and ultimately decided that although I supported it, there wasn’t adequate time to make it happen. In a meeting that same week our AD Tommy Hill suggested the school support a student bus for championship games only (Eastern Maine & State) and I agreed. On Saturday of last week, after defeating Bangor, our boys soccer team secured a birth in the Eastern Maine Championship.
Long story short… Messalonskee High School will be providing a “Fan Bus” for students to attend the boys Eastern Maine Soccer Final in Hampden this Wednesday. Students attending should sign up in the main office. Students should arrive at 3:35 and the bus will be departing at 3:45. We are in need of parent chaperones – anyone interested please contact Mr. Moody at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Thank you to the young ladies from the field hockey team – not only for their amazing championship caliber season (Skowhegan did go on to win the State Champoinship after their 2-1 slim victory over our ladies), but also for coming and speaking up. Had our girls not come to me and advocated for what they believed in, even when they knew it might not benefit themselves, we’d likely not be providing a fan bus for Wednesday’s game.
